LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (PRESS RELEASE) — Students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have enhanced the mobile AI app for Keepers, a local startup that automates housekeeping for short-term rental properties. The collaboration, led by Dr. Henry Chu and Opportunity Machine, aims to provide students with real-world experience while supporting local entrepreneurs. Carleena Andrepont, founder and CEO of Keepers, praised the students for the impressive progress they made over the summer, noting that they adapted AI capabilities to real-world work. Working under Assistant Professor Sercan Aygun, student interns Kevin Nguyen, Tyler Searle, Austin J. Bryant, Nathaniel L. Agee, Colin E. Dupuis, and Luke Brinkley gained valuable skills in machine learning and app development. “Although I didn’t pursue a career path in software engineering, this experience will help me in my career as a power engineer,” student Nathaniel L. Agee said in a press release. “The internship gave me an understanding of the steps required to build an AI model and the amount of data required to train such a model.” The app allows hosts and housekeepers to monitor cleanliness and tidiness through AI analytics and seamlessly integrates with platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO. Short-term rental hosts can see the status of their property in real time, access housekeeping services, and easily communicate tasks, fees, and schedules. The service currently operates in Texas, Utah, Nevada, Louisiana, and Alaska, with plans to expand.
