The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched a new matching app for smartphones that uses artificial intelligence to match people who are seriously considering marriage based on their values.
Tokyo Enmusubi is available to people aged 18 and older who live in or commute to Tokyo. Users will undergo an online interview upon registration and will also be required to submit a photo ID and proof of income and legal singleness to ensure security on the platform.
The move is part of a broader effort to boost Japan’s declining birthrate, with the Tokyo metropolitan government aiming to support single people and families at various stages of life, from dating to marriage, childbirth and raising children.
Users can download the app on their smartphones or access the platform’s website from their computers. The registration fee is 11,000 yen ($77) and membership is valid for two years.
The service’s AI technology suggests potential love interests for each other based on an assessment of 110 questions.
Users can also search for partners based on their desired characteristics.
A Tokyo metropolitan government official said, “There are many people who want to get married but are not actively in love.” “We want to encourage them to take that first step.”
