The iPhone 16 series has been officially unveiled, and naturally, the tech world is abuzz with talk of the next version of Apple’s flagship device, the iPhone 17. Industry insider Ross Young, known for making accurate predictions about Apple’s displays, said that the iPhone 17 could come with ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate, something that fans and critics have been asking for from Apple for the past few years.
According to MacRumors, the upgrade, previously only available on Pro models, will be coming to the standard model as well to offer smoother scrolling and enhanced video playback, which will be a significant improvement over the 60Hz refresh rate that the base model currently features.

The iPhone 17 may also have a reduced refresh rate
Another notable feature is that the display may adapt to a lower refresh rate to improve battery efficiency, similar to the always-on feature on the Pro version. These features were originally expected for the iPhone 16, so the iPhone 17’s display evolution may cause some users to postpone their upgrade until 2025.
Ross Young, who correctly predicted the larger screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro, further fueled the excitement with this leak. It’s unclear whether the iPhone 17 will offer a full range of refresh rates, including 10Hz or 1Hz, but the mere presence of ProMotion is enough to create some buzz.

Will the iPhone 17 Air be released?
In addition to the standard and Pro models, Apple is rumored to be releasing a new “iPhone 17 Air” model next year.
The model is expected to be slimmer, have a 120Hz display, and be a replacement for the Plus series, which may be phased out after the iPhone 16 Plus.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to be officially announced in September 2025.
