Sussex Tech Adult Education has announced a new partnership with the Indian River School District to offer three English as a Second Language classes to parents of Indian River School District students.
Classes are held at Georgetown Middle School, and Indian River employees include three teachers, one paraprofessional, and one field coordinator. Sussex Tech Adult Education oversees the program, curriculum, testing and registration, and manages attendance. This collaboration will allow us to accommodate an additional 60 to 75 students.
This initiative is in addition to the Indian River School District’s current partnership with North Georgetown Elementary School’s Family Literacy Program, also led by Sussex Tech Adult Education, to provide snacks to children. This program is partially funded by a grant from the Arsht-Cannon Fund. The Indian River School District also offers space for ESL classes at Philip Showell Elementary School in Selbyville.
“Sussex Tech Adult Education is excited about the Indian River partnership as we work toward our shared goal of providing community members with the tools they need to get better jobs and support their families. We are grateful,” said Kelly Whaley, director of Sussex Tech Adult Education.
