LOUIS, MO (First Alert 4) – When Dan Lohmeyer was going through a divorce last year, he remembers feeling a range of emotions from anger to loneliness.
“We take care of those different stages,” he said. “As I dealt with that, my father, who was my best friend, suddenly passed away and I found myself in a dark place.”
In search of companionship and relationships, he surfed dating apps, but struggled to find a place that offered a platonic relationship and quality time.
“I thought there had to be something there, but there wasn’t, and I couldn’t find anything.”
So he decided to create an app.
Dan Lohmeyer has created the perfect companion app designed to help combat the loneliness epidemic
The Perfect Companion app, released Friday, helps bring together what Lohmeyer calls “seekers” and “buddies.”
He wanted safety to be a top priority, so his app offers federal background checks for all users, ensuring those seeking to connect are as safe as possible.
The app is subscription-based, and explorers can also compensate their companions for their time if they wish. When asked how he plans to make sure the app doesn’t feel transactional, Lohmeyer said that not only will users undergo background checks, but a rating system will allow users to He said it will help avoid users who only want to be compensated for their time.
“We want to make sure the character is right,” he said. “When a companion is chosen and the seeker meets with them, we have a way to evaluate them and we can get feedback. If we start getting things we don’t like, we’re going to address it and If it’s just for the money, I don’t want them on the team.”
The app launch party will be held Friday night from 7pm to 9pm at Dogwood Social House in Ellisville.
