Riyadh, Saudi Arabia / ACCESSWIRE / September 25, 2024 / Qualcomm
The planned program aims to support AI and Internet of Things startups that drive industrial innovation and digital transformation in the Kingdom and region.

Qualcomm plans to launch Design in Saudi Arabia (DISA) through its subsidiaries Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Aramco, and the Saudi Arabian Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA). DISA is envisioned to be an incubator program in Saudi Arabia aimed at supporting startups bringing AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and wireless technologies to industrial use cases.

The initiative aims to support early-stage startups in the high-tech sector from product design and development to commercialization. It aims to provide a comprehensive support suite including technical assistance, business coaching and intellectual property (IP) training, all aimed at strengthening the Saudi technology ecosystem. The initiative would give startups access to resources such as Qualcomm Technologies and Aramco’s industrial experience and RDIA’s strategic guidance.

These resources may include Qualcomm® technology platforms such as mobile platforms, 4G, 5G, IoT, AI, and machine learning, as well as Aramco’s Saudi Accelerated Innovation Lab. Participating startups will also receive incubation support, access to research facilities, and financial grants. Once the initiative launches, selected startups will have the opportunity to work with Qualcomm Technologies’ business teams to address global commercial opportunities. These activities are in line with RDIA’s mission to strengthen the country’s research, development and innovation ecosystem, diversify the Kingdom’s economy, support local content and create opportunities for innovative growth. The purpose is

“We are excited to play a pivotal role in guiding AI and IoT startups from the design and product development stage to commercialization and driving the next wave of high-tech innovation in Saudi Arabia.” said Wasim Chorbaji, Senior Vice President and President. Qualcomm MEA, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We aim to propel the Kingdom into a highly digitally transformed future by meeting the unique needs of the Kingdom.”

“At Aramco, we aim to establish a robust digital superhighway that connects pioneering startups with Aramco’s resources and market opportunities,” said Nabil A. Al, Aramco’s senior vice president of digital and information technology.・Mr. Nouaim says: “This initiative aims to accelerate digital transformation and contribute to fostering a globally impactful ecosystem that meets current market needs and anticipates future challenges. By coming together, we are setting the stage for a new venture.”

The program will focus on training in intellectual property protection and patent strategies. Qualcomm Technologies encourages startup teams to understand and implement effective IP strategies and manage patent portfolios from the earliest stages of introducing advanced technologies into new products. This is facilitated through IP workshops and patent filing incentives.

The planned DISA program will build on Qualcomm’s track record of successful similar programs in Taiwan, India, Vietnam, and Africa, as detailed on the Ecosystem Enabling page.
