The next time you take a Royal Caribbean cruise, you might want to leave these travel gadgets at home.
Royal Caribbean has quietly added power strips, multi-plug outlets and surge protectors to its list of “prohibited items.”
Cruise lines have decided to ban travel essentials in cabins on older ships that don’t have multiple outlets for charging more than a few devices at a time.
If overloaded, power strips and extension cords can pose electrical damage and fire hazards.
However, despite the changes making the rounds online, it’s unclear whether Royal Caribbean is enforcing this latest rule.
For frequent travelers or large families, the ban will be difficult to stomach: Many older ships lack multiple electrical outlets or USB ports in their cabins, limiting them to one American-style outlet and one European-style outlet, according to TheStreet.
While many of the newer cruise ships have more electrical outlets and charging ports, the ban may be inconvenient for travelers who bring essential gadgets like cell phones, electric razors, cameras, tablets, e-readers, hair dryers and portable chargers.
