(TNS) — The National Security Agency has designated Pennsylvania Highlands Community College as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense.
“This is a great way to see that we are meeting the current needs of the (U.S.) National Security Agency and (U.S.) Department of Defense,” Greg Paonessa, assistant professor of computer technology, said in the release. “We are confident that our program now provides students with the tools they need to earn certifications and meet industry-required standards.”
To achieve this rating, the school had to go through a comprehensive review process with four checkpoints. These include demonstrating a conducive learning environment, hiring qualified faculty, providing an approved curriculum, and emphasizing learning outcomes in professional development.
Additionally, this nomination recognizes that all of Penn Highland’s cybersecurity and related programs align with national educational standards established by the NSA.
“We are excited about the opportunity to provide a well-rounded cybersecurity professional to our community and nation,” Dean Erika Reihard said in a release. “This designation recognizes Penn Highlands Community College’s commitment to academic excellence.”
