The New Jersey Transit Authority said its mobile app and online ticketing system were down during the Tuesday morning rush hour, but service has since been restored.
Users who tried to use the app received errors like “Failed to load data” and “Server connection timed out.” Around 8 a.m., all bus and train routes on NJ Transit’s website showed an “alert” status, even though most had no specific alert information. A few minutes earlier, most or all routes had shown as on time.
A spokesman said around 8:45 a.m. that service was being restored.
The night before the outage, NJ Transit’s XFeed showed off a new update that color-codes Hoboken- and New York City-bound trains in the “DepartureVision” view of its mobile app. A spokesperson’s brief statement about the outage did not say whether Tuesday morning’s issue was related to the update.
NJ Transit riders have endured a hellish summer of delays and cancellations due to ongoing infrastructure problems. NJ Transit and Amtrak, which owns the trackage NJ Transit uses north of Trenton, blame each other for the issues, but both agencies say they are working together on increased inspections and adjustments.
