ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – The Michigan Technological University football team overcame a two-game losing streak with a 6-0 victory over first-year GLIAC member Roosevelt on Sunday at Morris Field. The win was the Black & Gold’s highest scoring game since September 12, 2021, and their third shutout of the year.
The Huskies finished the first conference road weekend of the season with a 4-3 record and 2-2 in the loop, while the Lakers fell to 0-4-2 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC. Veterans Julia Pietila and Kielsen Korinek each scored a season-high four points.
“I’m so proud of this group and how they reacted after Friday’s brutal loss! This was a total team effort. We put together a solid 90-minute game and were able to get minutes for a lot of players. We’re going to continue to strive for that, which is good for our program and good for our growth,” Tech head coach Melissa Kuhar said. “Our offense was good and it was good to see some different players on the stat sheet! You can’t complain that our offense scored six goals and got a clean sheet. I’m even more proud of that!”
The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Kielsen Korinek headed a Grace Hoepner corner kick past the Lakers’ defense.
Michigan Tech scored three more goals in its season-high scoring game with two early goals from Julia Pietila, a team-leading six goals on the year and sophomore Brooke’s first goal of the season. Pietila had a season-high four shots, with Emily Clayton and Taylor Noble adding three each. Rudesha Reynolds made the save and combined with Bry Burrows for the shutout.
Paola Marcias had two shots for Roosevelt, and goaltender Roxana Herrera had four saves.
