BENGALURU: Organizations across the globe lack sufficient resources and clear leadership on cybersecurity, according to cybersecurity platform Trend Micro, which found that almost half (48%) of respondents in a survey claimed that their organization’s leadership does not consider cybersecurity its responsibility.
Cybersecurity has become an increasingly big concern in a technologically evolving market, especially since the advent of artificial intelligence. Trend Micro itself reported that it blocked 161 billion threats in 2023, a 10% annual increase.
Pointing to organizational attitudes, 54% of global respondents to the survey had complaints about inconsistent responses to cyber risks from month to month.
The study, which revealed gaps in cybersecurity management, also revealed that security teams are often overstretched and understaffed, with a global workforce shortage of around four million people, highlighting a talent shortage and fierce competition for talent.
Currently, most of these companies rely on the traditional skills of their IT teams, which are inadequate to address new cyber challenges. The survey found that 96% of IT leaders are concerned about their attack surface. Nearly two-fifths (36%) worry that they have no way to discover, assess and mitigate high-risk areas.
