BUTTE — The Montana Tech volleyball team found itself in an underdog position, at least in terms of rankings, in a matchup against Montana Western University that it’s not used to.
But after falling to a one-set deficit against the Bulldogs in a Frontier Conference game Saturday afternoon at the HPER Complex, the Oedigers pulled off the upset.
For Tech, Kinidy Wilmore had a team-high 17 kills and Olivia Labeau added 15 kills as the Audigers defeated No. 13 Montana Western 25-18, 16-25, 27-25, 25-22. He won four straight games in a month after being eliminated. It was removed from the top 25 voting.
For the Tech team, Megan Benton had nine kills and Piper Jett added eight kills. Elena Zhablanov led the Audigers with 17 goals, and Reece Leighton had a game-high 47 assists.
Western, looking for back-to-back conference wins for the first time this season, was paced by Peyton Fogle with a game-high 18 kills and Jasey Smith with 17 kills. For the Bulldogs, Taylor Pedersen had three aces, Kaylee Fritz had 27 assists and Kelsey Goddard had 16 digs.
On Thursday, the Oredigars host MSU-Northern and the Bulldogs host Carroll College.
