Microsoft, the American multinational technology company known for its software products and cloud services, has announced a significant investment in Brazil.
The company is investing US$2.7 billion over three years to strengthen cloud infrastructure and AI in Latin America’s largest economy.
The investment comes as countries around the world race to establish themselves as leaders in AI and cloud computing technologies, which are seen as essential to economic growth and competitiveness in the 21st century.
Other major technology companies, including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, are also expanding their presence in Latin America.
For example, in 2022, Google announced plans to invest US$1.2 billion over five years in Latin America, with a focus on digital infrastructure and skills training.
At the same time, the Brazilian government is actively promoting the country as a technology investment destination.
Similarly, Brazil launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy in 2021, aiming to position itself as a leader in the development and adoption of AI.
Expand your cloud and AI infrastructure
Microsoft’s investment is aimed at strengthening its cloud infrastructure and AI capabilities in Brazil, the report said.
The company plans to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure to multiple data centers in São Paulo state.
This expansion is expected to increase computing power and improve access to cloud services for businesses and organizations across Brazil.
The report also reveals that the investment is part of a broader “Microsoft Mais Brasil” program, which the company announced in 2020 as a demonstration of its long-term commitment to the South American country.
