HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Technological University cross country team begins its postseason this weekend, traveling to Big Rapids, Mich., for the 2024 GLIAC Cross Country Championships at Katoke Golf Course hosted by Ferris State University. .
The men’s 8k race will be the first race of the day at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s 6k at 11:45 a.m. A live stream of the event and live results are available at Michigantechhuskies.com/live.
Regular season summary
Michigan Tech’s men’s team, ranked 20th nationally, had Sam Lange finish last at the Lewis Crossover (25th) and Roy Gliac Invitational (8th) and was named GLIAC Athlete of the Year for his efforts. He won The Week twice. Michael Dennis, who also transferred, was the top Husky player, finishing sixth overall following the season opener at the Phoenix Open, and won the GLIAC Athlete of the Week award. Veteran Tucker Ringhand has been a steady No. 2 runner for the Black & Gold this season and has proven to be a dynamic one-two punch with Lange.
Colman Wrench, Karen Carrier, Zeb Swager, Brady Ketzenberger and Sawyer Fowler all finished in the top seven for MTU this season.
Five Huskies will make their conference championship debuts: Wrench, Swager, Ketzenberger, Austin Smelker and Lukas Senn. Sam Marshall and Michael Marshall appear in the Black & Gold’s 2nd Annual GLIAC Championship Race.
Sophomore standout Sophia Rhyne led the women’s team during the regular season with top-10 finishes at the Phoenix Open (4th place) and the Roy Griak Invitational (6th place) and one of the top tournaments. He finished in 35th place. DII will be racing a Lewis crossover this season.
The Huskies have shuffled around within the top seven throughout the season, but Ingrid Halvorson finished second for MTU in the season opener and Lewis Crossover. Veteran Cedar Gordon placed second for the Huskies at the Roy Griak Invitational and third at the Lewis Crossover.
Overall, the women’s team has nine runners with GLIAC championship experience, with Gordon, Halverson and Claire Endres competing in two conference championship races on the Black & Gold turf.
Juniors Hannah Kilpatrick and Ingrid Seagren will join sophomores Amira Everhart, Bridget Burns and Alisa Teige in their second conference championship on Saturday.
Freshmen Erika Kazin, Alex Lee and Grace Riddle will make their GLIAC Championship debut for the Huskies.

After the championship race, an awards ceremony will be held nearby at 12:45 p.m.
