Sashi Kiran, Additional Secretary to the Minister for Children, highlighted the growing concerns surrounding children’s use of devices and stressed the need for awareness and support mechanisms for parents.
She advises parents to focus on developing problem-solving skills and emotional intelligence in their children rather than making them dependent on gadgets.
Kiran says parents often lack the support of extended families that previous generations relied on to provide for and care for their children.

“But we are very uncertain about how to invest in our children to evolve their motor and thinking skills and give them the ability to cope with challenges and emotional and mental challenges. You have to consciously think about it. You know, when they’re depressed, they’re human, sometimes they’re high, sometimes they’re depressed. I’m not going to try to fix it right away, whether it’s drugs or anything like that.”
Kiran is calling on parents to rethink their children’s screen time and be more mindful of the content they consume.
