Here are some interesting hidden features available to iPhone users running iOS 18 and above (iOS 18.1 beta has been out for a while). Now, as a technology writer, there have been many times when I needed to exchange foreign currency. For example, let’s say the Huawei Pura 70 Pro flagship costs RMB 4,999. Although this phone is not officially available in the US, it might be interesting to check the comparative price of the device in USD. One way to do that is by accessing your favorite virtual assistant. On your iPhone, you can select either Siri or the Google Assistant app and say, “Convert 4,999 Chinese Yuan to US Dollars.” I prefer the Google Assistant UI for currency calculations because you can change input numbers if you want a different calculation. By the way, if you want to install the Google Assistant app on your iPhone, just tap this link.
With iOS 18, you can easily perform foreign exchange conversions by simply opening the iOS Calculator app. Once you open the app, tap the calculator icon in the keys at the bottom left and toggle the Convert button on. We want to know how many US dollars is equal to 4,999 Chinese Yuan, so tap the up and down arrow icons above the thin line on the display. This will display a list of foreign currencies. In this case, select Chinese Yuan. Then select USD by tapping on the up and down arrow icons below the thin line.

Tap the CNY line field and use your keypad to tap 4999. This shows that CNY 4,999 is equivalent to $713.07. The foreign exchange rates used by the calculator app appear to be in line with rates quoted by other sources such as Bloomberg.
By tapping the calculator icon in the iOS Calculator app in iOS 18, users can turn the calculator into a basic calculator, a scientific calculator, and even launch Math Notes. The latter allows you to assign variables, plot graphs, draw diagrams, etc.
