Search engine giant Google has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature to the video editing tools in its Photos app.
New features will enable users to edit videos with less effort than before, including an updated trim tool, allowing device owners to trim videos with improved controls to cut out exactly the footage they need without hassle.
There’s also a new “Auto Enhance” button, which allows users to enhance colors and stabilize videos with a single tap.
The new “New Speed” tool lets users control the pace of their recorded videos, allowing phone owners to convert regular videos into slow motion.
And perhaps the most notable upgrade coming to the Photos app are new AI-powered video presets that can automatically crop your videos, adjust lighting, and control speed.
Additionally, effects such as dynamic motion tracking of the main subject and zooming in on the main action can be applied. Users can also apply slow motion with just a few taps.
The new AI-powered editing tools will be available in an update to the Photos app on both Android and iOS in the coming weeks.
Relatedly, Google has announced a new feature that identifies fake and real photos in search results.
It has become increasingly difficult to distinguish real from synthetic multimedia content, and cybercriminals are exploiting this generation of AI to launch disinformation campaigns to smear celebrities and politicians.
To curb this, Google has teamed up with the Content Provenance and Authenticity Coalition (C2PA) to introduce new technology that can explain whether a photo was taken with a camera, edited with software, or generated by generative AI.
