Fitbit for Android has now been downloaded more than 100 million times from the Google Play Store.
The Fitbit app, released on March 16, 2012, hit this milestone today and now reports over 100 million downloads. We still have a separate developer account on Google Play, but it’s part of the main Google account for the iOS App Store.
Companion apps for Fitbit OS-powered smartwatches and trackers are available for Android phones and tablets, though the latter are merely stretched and not particularly optimized. The 8 Pro, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL also feature a step count widget, live wallpapers and Pixel thermometer integration.
Fitbit also powers Wear OS on the Pixel Watch, and the wearable experience is excellent, perfectly distilling the information you need.
This comes a little over a year after the broad rollout of a major redesign for Material You. Fitbit has nearly finished updating all of its Stats pages, with recent improvements to sleep, heart rate, physical response and mood, mindfulness, and stress management scores. All that’s left is health metrics, weight, food, and hydration.
Google Fit has also been downloaded over 100 million times.
The thing Fitbit users are asking for the most is a dark theme. It was promised to be released in October 2023, but it hasn’t been released yet. Maybe Fitbit is waiting for a complete overhaul of all stats pages first. At the same time, Google also hinted at “reducing space and optimizing the layout.”
Other big updates this year include a redesigned Settings and Health Connect integration, completely replacing the fitbit.com dashboard with a mobile app.
In the future, I hope to see Fitbit Labs with LLM, which will allow you to interact with your data in a conversational way.
