Karl Mattsson, CISO, Endor Labs
Endor Labs, a leader in open source software security, has announced the appointment of industry veteran Karl Mattson as the company’s first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Carl’s 25 years of experience encompasses a wide range of responsibilities in technology strategy as well as cybersecurity. He has led large teams at large enterprises and mentored disruptive start-ups, and has held senior roles across a variety of industries, from financial services to retail. This diverse background will serve him well in his new role at Endor Labs, where he is dedicated to securing the software supply chain by identifying and remediating open source software dependencies and hidden dangers within the software development lifecycle.
“The role of the CISO is always important, but it takes on even greater importance at a security-focused startup like ours,” said Varun Badhwar, co-founder and CEO of Endor Labs. “Karl will not only help us keep our own systems secure, but also be the voice for our largest customers in a variety of ways to help us better serve them.”
Mattson was previously the CISO at Noname Security, recently acquired by Akamai, a company that specializes in application programming interfaces (APIs) and application security. Prior to that, Mattson held leadership positions in the financial services sector, including as CISO at City National Bank and PennyMac Financial Services. Mattson is also active in industry advocacy as a member of the FS-ISAC Mortgage Risk Council, president of the LA Cyber Lab, and head of the financial services division of InfraGard, a national non-profit that serves as a public-private partnership between U.S. companies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mattson is a graduate of the FBI CISO Academy, holds master’s degrees from Boston University and Auburn University, and has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota for over 10 years.
“I have always been attracted to companies that can truly look to the future while addressing current problems,” Mattson said. “Endor Labs does that by creating secure software capabilities that actually make developers more productive, which is a great benefit to the entire community. The company also has a visionary management team with a strong track record, a talented and diverse staff, financial stability, and a unique approach to solving important challenges. I am excited to join Endor Labs and look forward to a long future with this great company.”
