Robert Downey Jr. has vowed to sue any future Hollywood executive who tries to recreate his likeness using an AI digital replica, Variety reported. His comments came during an appearance on the podcast On With Kara Swisher, where he discussed the growing role of AI in entertainment.
“I’m going to sue every future executive on spec alone,” Downey told Swisher when discussing the possibility of studios recreating his performance using AI or deepfakes after his death. . When Mr. Swisher pointed out that he would be dead by then, Mr. Downey replied that his law firm would “continue to be active.”
The Oscar winner expressed confidence that Marvel Studios will not use AI to recreate the character of Tony Stark, citing his confidence in Marvel Studios’ decision-makers. “I’m not worried about them taking over the soul of my character. It’s about three or four men and women who make all the decisions there anyway, but they would never do that to me. ” he said.
Downey is currently starring on Broadway in McNeil, a play that examines corporate leadership in AI technology. During the interview, he was lavish in his criticism of technology company executives. Variety pointed to a specific quote from the interview in which he criticized leaders of technology companies who seek positive attention despite the potential to do negative things.
