HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Two very different organizations are working together to increase voter participation.
Dating app Chispa has partnered with Voto Latino to engage young Latino voters ahead of elections and amplify their voices at the polls.
Mariano Pintor spoke with Chispa to Eyewitness News about the partnership, saying it is working to mobilize Latinos to vote in the 2024 elections.
The in-app experience allows users to access interactive political elements, chat about important political topics with potential matches, and learn about important deadlines ahead of voting.
Chispa’s partnership has had a measurable impact. In 2022, the campaign attracted 300,000 users to the election capital.
Latinos are the largest minority in this country, making up nearly 20% of the population. Voto Latino demonstrates the need for elected representation.
This year, more than 36 million Latino voters will be eligible to vote in November.
Young Latino voters make up 14.7% of the electorate, and Pinter said it’s important that they come to the polls informed.
Whether it’s streaming services, podcasts, or dating apps like Chispa, Voto Latino meets young voters where they already spend their time.
A recent Chispa survey found that almost half of respondents do not believe their one vote can make a difference.
That’s why Pinter said the company wants to give people the tools and resources they need to take action in a fun and natural way.
