BLUEFIELD, WV (WVVA) – The city’s economic development director says they’re looking for kids to display their wares at this year’s Youth Small Business Saturday.
It will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30. Jim Spencer, executive director of the Bluefield Economic Development Authority (Beda), said they started the program last year with a pop-up shop aimed at people 18 and under.
The program, located at Kraft Memorial Library, was a huge hit.
It also fits in with one of Small Business Saturday’s themes, “Look Local First,” which encourages residents to support locally owned and operated businesses. This year, Spencer said he hopes to see more young people get involved, not only learning how to start a business but also selling their products as vendors.
“Firstly, I think it’s good to expose young people to cooking at a young age, and secondly, I want to support them in their endeavours and help them through the process. You can be the best chef in the world and still fail if you can’t control your costs, get other things done and make the business a success,” Spencer said.
Children and parents interested in registering can do so by filling out a form provided online at mybluefield.Org.
