In a major step towards increasing production capacity, Cisco on Friday announced the opening of its first manufacturing facility in Chennai. The US-based technology giant aims to generate more than $1.3 billion in annual revenue through this new venture and significantly increase both export and domestic production capacity. The move is expected to strengthen Cisco’s footprint in India while also contributing to local economic growth. The new facility, set up in partnership with Flex, is expected to create 1,200 jobs in Tamil Nadu. Initially, the company will focus on producing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 series routers to meet the growing demand for high-performance networking products. In the future, the facility is expected to produce a wide range of top-tier routing and switching products.
The inauguration of the Chennai facility was a high-profile event attended by Union Communications Minister and Northeastern Development Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, and Cisco India Managing Director Daisy Chittilappilly. . During the event, Cisco highlighted its collaboration with Flex to bring cutting-edge telecommunications technology to India, further strengthening a 25-year partnership focused on global manufacturing expansion.

Future plans for the facility include a focus on producing advanced printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies and industrial-grade products designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions. Cisco also plans to manufacture complex networking equipment that requires thousands of individual components, aiming to meet the evolving needs of the global telecommunications and networking industry.

This is the next milestone in Cisco and Flex’s long-standing 25-year partnership,” the company said, as reported by Business Standard.
