Crystal J. has turned a nearly 6,000-square-foot space on West Sugar Creek Road into more than just a hub for other entrepreneurs like her.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crystal J. had an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age.
“That’s what I did in high school. I was a kitchen hairdresser. I didn’t want to work a regular 9-to-5 job,” she said.
That drive led the New York native to move to Charlotte in 2007. Eventually she opened a shoe store in Concord.
“I was selling a lot on eBay and I thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to move.’ I didn’t even have a plan,” Crystal recalls. “I’m just going to move and figure it out. I’m a risk-taker. I jump first and figure out how I’m going to land.”
A few years later, Crystal opened a studio in Noda as a certified esthetician. But she said she has her sights set on more.
“I was like, ‘I want to help other entrepreneurs and see them through to the end,'” Crystal said.
Her next step is a building on West Sugar Creek Road.
Crystal has transformed over 5,700 square feet of space into more than just a hub for entrepreneurs. A one-stop shop for self-care.
“I get to work with so many entrepreneurs and I get to sit down with them and talk about different processes,” she said.
She opened Moulin Bouges Lifestyle Doujinshi in July 2024. There, they offer services such as massage therapy, fitness classes, saunas, and even mental health services.
“When you come to a space like this, people know that you see a therapist regularly. That’s not something you have to hide,” Crystal explained.
Although Moulin Bouges is still in its early stages, Crystal said she already has ambitions to expand someday.
