BMW i Ventures, the BMW Group’s independent venture capital firm, announced it will participate in a $12 million Series B funding round for RunSafe Security, a leading cybersecurity company specializing in software “immunization.”
From offices in Silicon Valley and Munich, BMW i Ventures invests in early to growth stage companies defining the future of automotive, sustainability, manufacturing and supply chains. Since its founding in 2011, the firm has managed $800 million and invested in more than 75 start-ups, including Bcomp, Boston Metal, CelLink, ChargePoint, GaN Systems, Motorway, Tekion and Xometry.
Known for its patented process that protects software from cyber attacks without disrupting developers’ operations, RunSafe Security will use the funding to accelerate product development and expand its market reach in EMEA and APAC. The company’s success is reflected in impressive growth, with annualized revenue tripling for three consecutive years, and its solutions are adopted by industry leaders across a variety of sectors, including aerospace, defense and energy.
Kasper Sage, Managing Partner at BMW i Ventures, said: “Memory attacks are a growing threat to embedded systems in connected devices, and RunSafe’s cyber security technology protects memory-based systems from unknown vulnerabilities and future attacks. BMW i Ventures is committed to advancing safety and security measures throughout the automotive supply chain and beyond, and we are pleased to partner with Joe and the RunSafe team to support that mission.”
The investment round was led by Critical Ventures and SineWave Venture Partners, with participation from Working Lab Capital, Lockheed Martin Ventures, HyperLink Ventures, Iron Gate Ventures, Alsop Louie Partners and NextGen Venture Partners. “This investment round allows us to accelerate our efforts to deliver innovative solutions that protect critical systems from cyber attacks without requiring extensive code rewrites,” said Joe Saunders, CEO of RunSafe.
“RunSafe’s products have been adopted by industry leaders such as Vertiv, Schneider Electric and GE Aviation, as well as prominent branches of the U.S. military, including the Army, Navy and Air Force,” Saunders added. “With the expansion of the RunSafe security platform, we solidify our position as a cybersecurity crusader, providing automated solutions for SBOM generation, vulnerability identification, exploit prevention and remediation for embedded software deployed across critical infrastructure.”
With this investment, BMW i Ventures further strengthens its position as a key player driving innovation and security within and beyond the automotive industry.
