NATIONWIDE — Lorenzo Ruiz was born in prison because his mother was in prison, but he overcame great adversity to succeed. Despite his early challenges, he grew up to earn a bachelor’s degree in human services from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a master’s in public administration from Webster University. Now a two-time TEDx speaker, Lorenzo continues to break barriers in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, using his story as an inspiration to others.
Lorenzo recently stepped away from his role as Founder in Residence at The Confession Project of America (TCPA) to focus his efforts on expanding his for-profit TCP venture while maintaining his commitment to mental health and social impact, and currently serves as a Board Member Emeritus for both TCPA and the non-profit organization L&J Empowerment.
In his new role, Lorenzo will focus on growing two innovative brands, Confess Health and Confess Schools, by delivering TCPA’s proven curriculum to hospitals and schools across the U.S. The programs train individuals to be mental health advocates, facilitate meaningful conversations around emotional wellness, and provide them with the tools to address critical issues such as opioid addiction.
At the same time, Lorenzo is focused on driving growth and sustainability within the corporate arm, Lewis Family of Businesses, with an emphasis on family-owned ventures.
During his time at TCPA, the organization has achieved remarkable results in community impact and advocacy, and now, with the organization’s for-profit arm reaching a critical growth stage, Lorenzo sees an exciting opportunity to expand the business and drive innovation in new areas.
He is proud that his wife, Jordan Lewis, has been appointed TCPA’s new CEO, ensuring the continued advancement of the mission as the organization’s first female leader.
A key turning point for TCP Ventures was securing $150,000 in funding through Signal Fund, which will enable the company to reach over 120 million people through its mental health outreach in hospitals, schools, etc. TCPA’s $20 million valuation further highlights its significant potential for growth and is a testament to the strength of its brand and programs.
Lorenzo Ruiz expresses his deep gratitude to everyone who has supported TCPA’s mission to break down the stigma surrounding mental health for underrepresented communities. He looks forward to the next phase and is eager to build on his success in creating new opportunities to combine social impact with business growth.
