The women behind AKcess Granted are able to tap into more businesses in need of their educational services.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Kissena Frazier values education and has found a way to teach differently by leveraging the field of minority and women-owned businesses, also known as MWBE. Ta. She is the owner of AKcess Granted LLC.
“Many of these companies have to spend at least 30% of their budgets on MWBE, so this really gives us an opportunity to come to the table and provide services whether or not we can. We just give it to us. The outside world knows we’re certified,” Frazier said.
She earned her position by participating in a program at the Beverly Gray Exchange Center in Buffalo. The center was specifically designed to support Black businesses and entrepreneurs.
Frazier is a college admissions consultant primarily serving underserved minority students in high schools and colleges.
She recently conducted a workshop focused on time management for college freshmen at Alfred State University.
“We did different activities. How do you spend your day? We all have 24 hours in a day. We analyzed all their activities. We talked about goals. We talked about their priorities,” Frazier said.
Another workshop she says is popular is about digital footprints.
“Our young people don’t understand that the digital footprints they set now at 14, 15, 16, 17 years old can last all the way into adulthood.” said Frazier. “The choices they make now will definitely affect whether they receive a scholarship later on if they go to college or if they choose to get a job instead of going to college.”
The ultimate goal of AKcess Granted is to develop and support youth in Buffalo and beyond.
“Having this MWBE certification will allow me to do that in New York State. It puts me in a different place, although people will be able to come looking for me. , I’m already not waiting for people to come looking for me, I’m coming looking for you now so that my services have an educational space that will benefit those who receive your services. Once you figure it out, it’ll be right in your inbox. ”
