Experts from Rentokil say condensation is a major problem in the UK, affecting one in five homes.
This common problem is caused by high indoor humidity and is worse from October to April, but varies depending on temperature.
While some window experts claim the only long-term solution to condensation is to replace the panes of glass, a content creator on TikTok is sharing the best quick fix.
The creator of the TikTok account @blooms_abode suggested placing one of the materials by a window to filter out excess moisture.
This simple hack uses baking soda to get rid of condensation problems in windows, cabinets, cupboards and even wardrobes that have moisture issues.
The TikTok user explained that excess moisture left on windows can lead to mold growth and other structural issues in your home.
But this technique is much easier and, as home hack aficionados say, “no gadgets needed.”
For this hack, start by opening your blinds and curtains first thing in the morning and placing a small container of baking soda next to the window sill.
Additionally, the self-proclaimed cleaning expert recommended using an anti-mold spray on window frames, specifically Astonic Mold and Mildew Blaster, although many other sprays are just as effective.
She recommended doing it every two weeks, or more frequently if dark spots appear in between.
Plus, @blooms_abode says that once the baking soda “eventually hardens,” which is usually after a month, you should empty it out and replace it with a new pan.
Over 60,000 followers have followed @blooms_abode’s handy cleaning tips, and the baking soda method is a surefire way to combat condensation.
The best part is that you can buy this stuff in Tesco or Asda for just 65p, which is a real bargain.
While some TikTok users suggested different ways to deal with condensation in the home, the cleaning expert insisted that his method was the best.
To remove any remaining mould, one suggestion was to use dish soap on a dry cloth, but the TikTok cleaning guru warned: “This will make a mess – the water will just stick to other things in your house.”
Others praised the condensation solution, with one person commenting: “Thanks so much for this trick, I’ve never thought of using this spray on windows before so I’m so glad I did.”
Another person commented: “Just did as I was told… this was so needed.”
